Crystal Gala : February 12, 2011
On Saturday, February 12th, 2011, the Boys and Girls Club of St. Charles county hosted its 46th Annual Crystal Gala at the Columns Banquet and Conference Center. Four hundred guests were welcomed to the event as Joyce Shaw displayed her talents at the Baby Grand Piano. There were many Silent Auction Baskets in place waiting for the bidding process to begin. As dinner was served, Nancy O'Connell, co-owner of Stone Soup Cottage presented Troy Palmer, a young and budding artist from the Boys and Girls Club with a $500 Saving Bond for producing the winning design to be used on the cover of their new cookbook which will debut this spring. After dinner, three famous magicians, Gary Shaw, Dr. Mike Conoyer and Jerry Hollingsworth took the stage to perform their magic. By a show of hands, the audience raised $119,000 for the Capital Campaign, finalizing the additional funds needed to meet a matching grant from the Mabee Foundation, making the total raised for the evening at $190,000. The Oral Auction created excitement and enthusiasm among the guests as the show of hands placing their bids continued. The evening culminated with a Piano Bar as the guests mingled and enjoyed the sounds of Mr. Eric Barfield as he took his spot to tickle the ivories on the Baby Grand. Mr. Barfield is a former Boys and Girls Club member.
