The Reading Success Center provides reading improvement services at the Boys & Girls Club of St. Charles County . The Reading Success Center is dedicated to providing tutoring and accountable, measurable reading instruction and practice for at-risk students and reluctant readers who are struggling at school and unable to afford high priced interventions for national chains.
This reading software program provides a personal reading specialist and speech pathologist for every student, producing dramatic results in the classroom. The Reading for Success program focuses on phonemic awareness, grammar and reading comprehension using techniques to improve reading fluency. Students are required to attend one hour sessions three days per week. Pre – testing insures that each student receives targeted instruction. The Reading Success Center guarantees that it will improve a students’ reading comprehension score 10 – 30 percentile points after 50 hours of instruction. Our program offers each student individualized, direct instruction with limitless patience and encouragement. Students progress at their own pace and it helps them to gain confidence to start reading. When students start to feel successful they begin to read more.
Students began the reading program that were not succeeding in the regular classroom. Their average reading level was below grade. After just fifteen hours of instruction, they gained an average of one grade level. It was there that the success began of many children involved in our program. Many children have graduated and have gone on to succeed in their classrooms. Our Reading for Success program now serves over 75 students , showing marked improvement in their reading skills, self-esteem and confidence.
Education is key. Every child deserves the literacy skills needed for a fulfilling and productive life. Our Reading for Success program here at the St. Charles County Boys & Girls Club is fulfilling this need at an affordable price for struggling readers and their parents.
My Reading Coach provides a personal reading specialist and speech pathologist for every student, making true one on one instruction a reality. It identifies struggling readers and targets instruction where it is needed and measures the students improvement. This reading program creates a reading IEP for students with learning difficulties, effectively prescribing a targeted reading intervention strategy that can be tracked and monitored easily. Providing parents and instructor’s with daily progress. This program builds confidence in the most challenged students by providing highly structured, individualized coaching and unlimited practice in a comfortable, modern up to date classroom and provides a stress free learning environment.

The lessons are designed to eliminate specific gaps and weaknesses in basic reading skills. Individualized prescriptions facilitate targeted instruction. Self paced testing provides a comfortable testing environment. It provides customizes tests for each student as they progress. Automatic reports are generated daily for individuals and classes.
The Reading for Success Program is overseen by Dr. Dorothy Young. Dr. Young is an educator with over 40+ years of experience at the elementary to college/adult level. The program is supervised daily by Dr. Young and other trained staff and volunteers.
